Foto de Vandellòs i L'Hospitalet de l'Infant once again obtains the Blue Flag for all its beaches and, for the first time, the "Blue Centre" award for its environmental classroom.

All the beaches of Vandellòs and L'Hospitalet de l'Infant have been awarded the Blue Flag 2024, which internationally recognizes quality and services. Specifically, the three beaches of L'Hospitalet de l'Infant (Arenal, Punta del Riu and Torn); and also, the beach of L'Almadrava. The award is given annually by the International Jury of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), in collaboration with the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC), which manages the campaign in Spain.

As far as beaches are concerned, 27 correspond to the Girona area, 20 to Barcelona, 22 to Penedès, 18 to Tarragona and 8 to Terres de l'Ebre.

This internationally recognized award, which is given in 51 countries on five continents, values and rewards environmental management, the safety of bathing areas and their facilities, the optimal provision of services, environmental information and education and the quality of bathing water.

In Catalonia, a total of 95 beaches and 23 ports have been awarded in 2024. Among the award-winning ports is once again the marina of L'Hospitalet de l'Infant.

As for the beaches, 27 of them correspond to the Girona area, 20 to the Barcelona area, 22 to the Penedès area, 18 to the Tarragona area and 8 to the Terres de l'Ebre  area.

Launch of the "Blue Centre" label

In addition to obtaining the renewal of the Blue Flag for the four beaches and the marina, the municipality has also been awarded the Blue Flag award for the Centro Azul. This is a recognition awarded annually by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) to those visitor centres, sea or nature classrooms, etc., located in Blue Flag municipalities, which can be visited by the general public and which include among their objectives and activities environmental education on coastal ecosystems and specific information on the Blue Flag Programme.

In the case of Vandellòs i L'Hospitalet de l'Infant, the Department of Tourism presented in January the candidacy for the Blue Centre for the environmental classroom located in summer on the promenade of L'Hospitalet de l'Infant, next to the  tourist information point of the Nautical Base. To do so, it had to present an annual report of programmed activities.

This year, as it did last year, this space plans to organise in summer, with the collaboration of the Department of the Environment, a series of environmental activities and workshops for families to "enhance the value of the local ecosystem and raise awareness among the population about problems related to the environment, as explained by the Councillor for Tourism, Elidia López, who highlighted the success they had in 2023 (all available places were sold out).

In Catalonia there are only 10 blue centers, 4 are in the Tarragona       area.

"These awards are the result of Vandellòs i L'Hospitalet de l'Infant's commitment to caring for the environment and quality services, aimed at both residents and visitors and tourists," said the councillor for Tourism, Elidia López.
